Accident can happen anytime and anywhere to your dog. Sometimes when it happens, your dog needs surgery. Dog surgery must be done when your beloved dog has certain disease. Common disease that needs surgery is tumor such as bone tumor. Another reason why surgery must be done is sex drive of your male dog. When a male dog detects a potential female dog, the male dog will do anything to find it. This can cause many problems because sometimes the male dog can be out of control. To overcome those problems; accident, disease and sex drive, you get a solution through a surgery.

Practically, there is a difference between surgery of disease and surgery of sex drive. Dog surgery which is caused by accident or disease, will remove only diseased part of your dog. In some cases, amputation will be done to save your dog’s life. When a dog gets hit by a car, it will need an amputation. For sex drive, having a dog neutered will overcome all problems above. Neutering your dog will reduce its drive to fight, run around, jump everywhere or make a mess. In fact, sex drive is something natural for your dog, just like falling in love for human being. But if you can’t bear seeing all the mess, then neutering your dog through dog surgery can be a way out for the sake of you and your dog.

Let’s say dog surgery has been done, so what should you do then? You have to make sure the veterinarian give an appropriate post surgical attention. So your dog can be healthy as it used to be. In short, after surgery the veterinarian will maintain your dog until it’s fully awake and will give antibiotics or other protectors if necessary. As the veterinarian allows your dog to go home, there are some important things you should be aware. Make sure you put the dog in comfortable bed; usually it’s not elevated one. Try to make your dog fully awake by giving it some easy commands. The most important thing to do after dog surgery is controlling any liquid consumption, including solid meal and medication.

Remember to watch out for the symptoms you should tell the veterinarian, such as drowsiness, incapable to urinate in a first day, having urine with blood remains, or having body temperature over  39°C, etc. The point is you have to ask your veterinarian what symptoms you must watch out in details. Depending on the type of surgery, whether minor or major, your veterinarian will advise you when your dog can resume its normal lifestyle. So, it’s a must that you know when your dog can eat normally for the first time, when your dog can go out to the street after having the dog surgery.
